Mid-Spring

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Last month, at the Spring Equinox, we began the seasonal new year. The energy of the sign of Aries sparked the generation of new life and creativity. We noted how the cardinal fire of Aries can be used to inspire and fortify our determination to accomplish our goals for the new year.

Now, with the passing of another month, we pass from the cardinal fire of Aries and settle into the fixed earth of Taurus. After the initial spark burst forth, jolting the cycle into motion anew, the energy stabilizes into the Earth element as it begins to take fixed shape and form. Just as the molten lava which burst forth suddenly from the previously silent volcano gradually slows and hardens into new rockforms, the spark of Aries which brings life up from the depths now comes to settle into its physicality, the vessel of form which it will use to move forward through the rest of the cycle.

In our lives, the energy of Taurus is what brings our intentions into concrete reality. Aries gave us the spark of inspiration and the energy to move forward. Taurus gives us the steadfastness and solidity to persevere and see it through. We can see the need for this progression easily in our daily lives. How many times have we seen someone (or even ourselves) start out on an ambitious new project full of zeal and fervor, only to fizzle out and drop it by the wayside only a short time after. This is exactly what happens if we are deficient in the energy of Taurus. Aries the Ram bursts forth with vigor, but without the steady plodding of Taurus the Bull, nothing will ever really come of all that initial clamor.

Just as we did with Aries, let us consider a few things we can do to make use of the Taurean energy during this season of mid-Spring.

  1. Take some time to step outside and sit or stand in the grass. Let your feet sink into the earth and feel the solid, groundedness of it. Notice any trees or rock formations, or even small pebbles. Meditate on the fixed nature of these things. How they endure and remain; still and silent, despite whatever might happen around them. Consider how this fixed energy has its place within you.

  2. Recall the goals and plans you set from the time of Aries. Think about how you have progressed with these intentions in the time sense. Have you kept up your pace well? Has your enthusiasm waned a bit? Maybe you've totally dropped them? Whatever the case, consider why this might be.

  3. Now, think back on the feeling of the earth. Think back on the great trees and the majestic mountains. How did they come to be so grand and breathtaking? Keep in mind, the greatest trees were once mere saplings, sprouting up like everything else right along with Aries. Likewise, the mountains were once nothing more than flatlands until the great spark erupted from beneath. Then, after ages passed, they gradually took shape as they appear now. What do we learn from this? The spark gets us started, but unless we are able to remain steadfast and persevere no lasting work will come from our inspiration. We, like the trees and mountains, must be ready for the long haul if we hope to actualize our ideas. There is no shortcut. We must integrate the fixed earth of Taurus to give aa solid foundation for our spark of thought.
