Late Spring

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

Now that we're reaching the latter end of the Spring season, we come to the time of Gemini in the yearly wheel. We've previously gone over the beginnings of the new cycle with the Vernal Equinox and the sign of Aries, where we saw the spark of life burst forth from the depths of winter to kick the new year into action. From there we saw that energy settle into its new form as the plants grew up and donned their vibrant colors in the sign of Taurus. Now, as we reach the sign of Gemini, all the plants and creatures which have by now established themselves begin to really start moving about and interacting with their environment. The birds and the insects are fluttering about all around us, making their nests and gathering their food. The plants are putting forth their flowers and spreading their pollen. All this is a portrait of Gemini.

Gemini is the sign of the twins. As Aries is the awareness of the self and Taurus brings the awareness of the physical senses, Gemini brings the awareness of the other. Gemini shows us that there is an entire world out there with all manner of other beings apart from just ourselves. From Gemini we learn that, in order to grow, we must leave the sedentary comfort of Taurus and venture out into the unknown. We must cultivate and make use of our curiosity and be in wonder of all of creation.

Gemini is the Air element in the mutable mode. It is symbolized by the wild whirling winds which can never be stilled. It is ruled by Mercury, the messenger of the gods who traverses all the worlds spreading knowledge. Mercury is the fastest moving planet and the closest to the Sun. It is constantly active, communicating with the other planets and bringing knowledge back to the soul. This is a representation of the mind as it becomes endlessly enamored by every new project or discovery. It is like a playful child who can never be satisfied until they've learned all there is to know.

At this time of year, we can take advantage of the energy of Gemini by going out into the world to explore new things.

  1. Think of a topic that interests you that you've been meaning to explore. Take action toward learning more about it through a book or a course, or even go out and experience it hands on.

  2. Step out and put yourself in a position to communicate with others about a topic of interest. Engage with others around you and share your information together.

  3. Let yourself be curious like a little child seeing the world for the first time. Take nothing for granted and question everything.

  4. Be spontaneous. Break out from your usual routine and try something new.
